About James Suarez
James Suarez is a Tokyo-based street and nightlife photographer from Nottingham, England, known for his raw and cinematic documentation of Tokyo’s street culture and underground nightlife.
Since 2014, he has photographed across Asia — from Bangkok’s gogo bars to Tokyo’s underground parties — capturing the pulse, tension, and humanity of urban life. His work reflects years of shooting in the field and guidance from photographers Greg Girard and Bruce Gilden, whose tutelage helped sharpen his eye for timing, atmosphere, and emotional truth in a frame.
James has released several photo zines and exhibited internationally, collaborating with Ricoh GR, Yokogao Magazine, Hennessy, AMBUSH, and Armand de Brignac. His independent projects often explore nightlife, isolation, and authenticity in modern city life.
Outside his personal work, James is an active Tokyo event and nightlife photographer, working with leading clubs, magazines, and fashion brands. He also hosts Tokyo street photography walks and workshops, guiding photographers through Shinjuku, Shibuya, and Kabukicho to help them see and photograph Tokyo’s streets with intention.
